Scholar's Program
Virginia AHEC Scholars is a statewide program designed specifically to increase the number of skilled and culturally competent health professions students prepared to practice in rural and underserved areas. As part of the program, students engage in practical, hands-on training; professional mentoring; networking opportunities; and unique rural and underserved care experiences. During the Fiscal Year 2019-2020, the SWVA AHEC had 169 Scholars.
Scholars Immersion Program provides 20 students from the statewide Virginia AHEC Scholars program and/or from healthcare professions programs throughout the state of Virginia the opportunity to experience a one-week interdisciplinary experience of rural medicine and life in a rural setting.
